It has been awhile since I did a update on my Bella. Just to refresh you all, Bella got hurt somehow, either in my auto- rear-ender or hurting herself in my car when the seats were being upholstered…[by catching her leg [or legs] in a bracket for the middle jockey-box.] while jumping from backseat to front seat. In any event she managed to cripple herself very badly. I have discovered she has 3 ruptured disks, 2 in her neck, and one back by her hips. She also has a horny growth protruding through the pad of her left foot. It is about a inch long now and I finally found it while clipping her nails. This is making her walk on the side of her foot and is very painful.
This misadventure has been a long and painful odyssey for Bell and very costly for me, as I do not have pet insurance. As a side light, Pet Insurance would have off set the $1500. I have out of pocket paid so far for medical care for her and possibly paid for the much needed MRI for her back that costs $1750.00, if you can believe that! Tomorrow is another $400. Then there is the after care. This eats into my medical care as she and I split what money I have for medical care for the both of us. I, of course have Medical Insurance, but that costs an arm and a leg….so unless a critical part of me is falling off, it gets put on the back burner….As I get older, more parts are falling off and I make a personal assessment how badly I need that part and do I or do I not fix it ? With Bell I do the same, but I am more likely to fix her first especially if I know she is in chronic bad pain.
The growth is most likely a foreign object, [thorn, glass, etc] that imbedded itself in her paw or a tumor etc. She is having surgery to have it removed tomorrow 8/9. The Vet is not crazy about removing it, as healing is a big issue due to mobility for her in general. I am not sure how the foot will be immobilized? I cannot imagine how I would keep a 79lb dog off her front paw? Plus she is a very active dog [sort of like a dog on speed]. I thought as she aged she would slow down and smell the flowers but, that has not happened and I am not holding my breath. A trainer friend of mine laughed at me once when I told him I was not fond of Terriers…”HA, he said, you have the biggest terrier of all, no wonder she drives you nuts. “ All my other Dobermans mellowed out as they aged. Bella was bred for the show ring, so she feels turned “ON” at the least provocation. Sleeping is the only time she is still. Well she does a lot of running in her dreams also……….I have resorted to giving her doggy ‘Tranks’ a natural herbal called “Rescue’”, IF it is working I am not aware of it.
Most of you who know me at all, realize I am a Animal person, not so much a human aficionado….It seems, as I have lived through this long life of mine, [and it looks like it will be a lot longer, as I show no signs of going to that BETTER PLACE any time soon] I have never been let down by my animal friends. Through thick and thin they abide with us, put UP with us and never ask for anything in return, except a pat on the head and to share a meal. So, in my Will I have left a chunk of my worth to my non human friends. Hopefully some of you might give that a thought. Recently I have read some pretty horrible things being done to animals, lets try and offset some of that negative energy and help them in some small way. Ok, that’s all for today. Hope all of you have a happy and blessed day, working your Karma though.
